“Serrano did as he was told, but as he took the men’s I.D.’s and wrote their tickets, he told them: “I’m violating your rights, and you should take my name down. If you ever want to sue, you can use me as a witness.” —Officer Serrano’s Hidden Camera The stop-and-frisk trials of Pedro Serrano: NYPD rat, NYPD hero.

“

Here’s another congressional-subcommittee transcript highlight of the week. Senator Mark Kirk of Illinois asks the attorney general if he’s spying on members of Congress and thereby giving the executive branch leverage over the legislative branch.

Eric Holder answers: “With all due respect, senator, I don’t think this is an appropriate setting for me to discuss that issue.”

Senator Kirk responded that “the correct answer would be, ‘No, we stayed within our lane and I’m assuring you we did not spy on members of Congress.’” For some reason, the attorney general felt unable to say that. So I think we all know what the answer to the original question really is.

“The way things are supposed to work is that we’re supposed to know virtually everything about what they do: that’s why they’re called public servants. They’re supposed to know virtually nothing about what we do: that’s why we’re called private individuals. This dynamic - the hallmark of a healthy and free society - has been radically reversed. Now, they know everything about what we do, and are constantly building systems to know more. Meanwhile, we know less and less about what they do, as they build walls of secrecy behind which they function. That’s the imbalance that needs to come to an end. No democracy can be healthy and functional if the most consequential acts of those who wield political power are completely unknown to those to whom they are supposed to be accountable.” —

This really is remarkable.

“5) The reason most politicians in D.C. are shameless liars with no character is because most Americans will knowingly choose a shameless liar with no character who says what they want to hear over an honest man with morals who tells them the hard truths they’d rather ignore.” —20 Basic Truths You Can’t Talk About in America Anymore - John Hawkins - Page full

“The question, which is discussed somewhat in the article, is why we need a debate at all? Americans are obviously pissed off. They do not want to be spied upon. They do not want the IRS targeting them. They don’t want Los Federales deploying drones over America. They do not want the government reading all their email and tracking them. For all their faults, Bush 43 and Bill Clinton didn’t “have a debate”: they took action and held people responsible.” —Obama’s “Let’s Have A Debate” Defense | Right Wing News
